I Should Have Watched This Sooner – Hugtto! PreCure Episode 10

Summary: It’s finally Hana’s turn to be unsure and have some development. And what better way to do that than have her feel completely and totally worthless?

When the girls agree to be waitresses at a food festival as part of an article that Hana’s mom is writing. While Saaya and Homare are thriving in the new job, Hana has been placed at the Takoyaki stand and feels out of place. As Hana watches Saaya and Homare improve their service abilities, she starts to think that she can’t do anything.

While Hana is at her lowest, having given up on her job, a monster attacks and Hana is unable to transform. How will the PreCure fare with their main attacker down for the count?

htp10-1Review:

Okay so this was a huge upgrade from episode 9 and I wish I had watched this episode sooner. I’m so happy that they’re making Hana’s conflict last more than one episode. I know I’ve mentioned this before but I felt like Kirakira lacked real stakes for most fights. I never felt like there was actually anything to lose during big moments because the girls took care of things so easily until the mid-points and end. Thankfully it seems Hugtto might be learning from this lesson and upping the tension.

Plus there was that scene at the end with Hugtan. Hugtan is clearly no ordinary baby, though Harry hasn’t explained who she really is and what she can do. But it should be obvious that she’s special considering each girl has ‘fed’ her with the power of their Mirai Crystals after battle (a weird and oft ignored plot point). So when Hugtan clearly releases all of this pent up energy, much to Harry’s dismay, it has lasting consequences and she knocks herself out.

htp10-2While we likely aren’t going to get a whole lot of information on Hugtan next episode, we will at least have a story focused on how unique she is as a character mixed with some good development from Hana.
